treatments
[edit]Ayurveda : There seems to be a technique called 'Kshara Sootra' (a Medicated thread) available in ayurveda. Can anyone provide details?
- from a cursory inspection of this (highly misleadingly named) website link, this seems to be a seton. Markjohndaley (talk) 02:30, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- NEW TREATMENT -
- Most effective, minimally invasive treatment available is through the use of the Anal Fistula Plug (AFP), developed by Cook Medical Inc. The AFP is a biodegradable collagen plug that acts as a bioscaffold to facilitate the regeneration of tissue growth within the fistula tract. Once surgically inserted and secured properly, studies have shown this new treatment to yield an 87% success rate. The AFP has no risk of incontinence and does not require the cutting of the sphincter muscle. It is the perfect treatment for anyone who is living with a ceton inserted, and/or has a deep anal fistula that would otherwise require cutting muscle and risking incontinence. For more information visit www.cooksurgical.com or contact an AFP Specialist directly - Omar.Sharif@Cookmedical.com
This looks like advertising. --DanielCD 21:18, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
This needs to be worded in an encyclopedic manner and to be referenced by research journals, not webites or a single organization. This information may be important, so don't make it crummy by referring to a certain person/organization/entity that provides the procedure, as that looks like advertising. Material should be cited and reference material listed in its own section below the main article body. --DanielCD 22:21, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm absolutely in agreement. Can somebody put up a references flag? I'm at work.. Markjohndaley (talk) 02:31, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm also highly sceptical of "Studies Indicate" If we are using science we should be quoting how these outcomes compare and which head to head trial shows morbidity/ hard endpoint benefit before any differential benefit claims are made on an encyclopedic site.Markjohndaley (talk) 02:36, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]I am passing through, rating pages for WPMED. I thought I'd mention the page currently seems to confuse fistula and sinus (or sinus tract). --Una Smith 02:48, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure this is the case now. Markjohndaley (talk) 02:39, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Article shoul dmake clear that fistula has epithelial lining, otherwise it is called a "communication". Or so I understand. Can have a communication early on in the process (a draining perianal abscess), then later the tract becomes colonized by epithelia.lesion (talk) 22:12, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Famous Fistulas
[edit]Didn't Louis XIV of France have an anal fistula? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.30.93.241 (talk) 06:34:09, August 19, 2007 (UTC)
It seems so. Just seen it mentioned on a BBC TV programme called Versaille which is a drama documentary about Louis XIV. Programme broadcast 20:00-21:00 on 7/5/2011. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.70.89.35 (talk) 19:56, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Paid/COI request edit: Adding BioHealx-Assisted Fistula Treatment (BAFT) to treatments

Disclosure: I am a contractor engaged by a firm retained by Signum Surgical, the manufacturer of the BioHealx device referenced below. Per WP:PAID, I am disclosing this relationship and proposing this addition here rather than editing the article directly.
I'd like to propose adding BioHealx-Assisted Fistula Treatment (BAFT) to the list of anal fistula treatment procedures on this page, alongside a citation to the peer-reviewed clinical study describing it.
Proposed addition:
BioHealx-Assisted Fistula Treatment (BAFT) is a procedure for treating certain non-branching transsphincteric anal fistulas. Rather than cutting through the fistula tract, the technique involves placing a bioabsorbable implant around the outside of the tract, compressing the section of the tract that passes through the sphincter muscle.
Proposed citation:
Harsányi L, et al. "The novel BioHealx-assisted fistula treatment (BAFT): effective primary fistula healing with continence preservation." International Journal of Colorectal Disease. 2025;40:110.
I recognize that WP:MEDRS prefers independent secondary sources such as review articles over individual primary studies. As BAFT is a recent development, I'm not aware that review level coverage exists yet; i'm offering this peer-reviewed study as the defining published description of the procedure, while noting it as a primary study connected to the manufacturer. I fully defer to independent editors on whether it merits inclusion now and welcome judgment on appropriate weight, placement, and framing; including a more cautious wording if preferred. Or if it is better to add once independent secondary sources are available.
Happy to adjust based on editor feedback. Thank you for reviewing. Riley edits55 (talk) 09:22, 20 August 2026 (UTC)
