The film’s plot has some similarities with the scenario in the book, but also important differences. Jacobsen’s book may have gotten a lot of attention, but it is hardly the first to present a nuclear-war scenario, so it would be unfair to cite just this one book. Plot synopsis

"Baker commits suicide upon realizing he wouldn't be able to save his daughter in time."

That's not my read at all. Or at least it's a massive over-simplification. He seems resigned to the fact she cannot be saved and he's happy she won't die alone. At the point he kills himself, the president is looking for his opinion on retaliation. Plausibility of the scenario

Should we add a section on whether the plot is realistic? Among other problems, the film gives short shrift to most likely outcome of such an incident: a Second strike, i.e. absorbing the initial attack and determining the responsible party before retaliating. Plot

Someone replaced a 700-word plot synopsis with a 2176-word one based on the (false) argument that the former was AI-made. 2176 words for a film that is less than two hours long and consists of the same 20-minute plot repeated three times is not optimal by any stretch of the imagination.
