TFD for TFD templates
[edit]The TFD templates have been nominated for merging, see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 July 3 § Template:Tfm notice for the discussion. Primefac (talk) 05:32, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Bot to update drainage TfD link
[edit]Can someone with a bot update the TfD links of the templates at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 June 4/Drainage basin succession templates to point to 2026 June 12? I did A-C for the Px templates but it's just too long manually and its over 1k pages.
Would be nice if the templates listed at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2026_June_4/Drainage_basin_succession_templates#R-template_list_(added_8/7/26) could also be tagged with the TfD templates so they get categorized correctly. Gonnym (talk) 07:25, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- Or someone could close the TFD, which has been open for over a month. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:21, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- I'll note that I did not tag the R- templates because they directly transclude a related P- template and thus would be G8 candidates if the P- candidates are deleted. Also the TFD templates still show up on the pages calling the R-templates, so the discussion still points to the right place. Primefac (talk) 16:48, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
Medal TFD
[edit]@Pppery you might be the only usual admin to close things at TFD who isn't involved in Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 April 13#Medal templates 2. Can you take a look? Izno (talk) 19:55, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- I actually think it would be best for somebody who isn't a TfD regular to close this, simply because of how polarized the discussion is between TfD regulars and sports regulars. If I had to close this myself I'd probably go with "delete" on the grounds that the lack of accessibility hasn't really been refuted but in doing so I would be declaring editors I regularly interact with correct and ones I've hardly ever interacted with wrong in a discussion right on the line between "delete" and "no consensus" which I don't feel I can do impartially. * Pppery * in solidarity 04:18, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
- I've closed the discussion as delete, since I do think there is a weak consensus to delete. However, I haven't actually deleted the templates yet because they are still widely transcluded. They're listed at the holding cell now. – Epicgenius (talk) 21:15, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks Epicgenius, the TFD gnomes (myself included) will take it from here :-) Primefac (talk) 21:24, 31 July 2026 (UTC)

Template query
[edit]Hey, editors,
I have been doing some recategorizations and have run into a problem with a template that is driving me crazy. But I'm not sure if anyone else has my point of view or how many templates would be involved in a nomination. Take, for example, Template:YYYY crimes in continent category header. What I'm finding working on crime in Russia in the 19th and 20th centuries that at some point, an editor decided that the Soviet Union was both in Europe and Asia. While technically true, what I'm finding is all of these murders and crimes happening before and during World War II have categories that state these events happened in Asia because the editor setting up the category used the continent/crime template. It seems ridiculous to see massacres in Poland state in a category that this incident happened in Asia.
So, is it possible to alter the templates involved with crimes and murders and continents? Or should I manually remove all of the templates used and come up with my own set of categories I can paste in? As you can see, I know little about templates and would never plunge in and edit a widely used template because I don't want to be called to AN/ANI. So, this post is just testing the waters. I know another editor has run into this problem with templates that always include categories which are impossible to remove. Suggestions are welcome. Liz Read! Talk! 05:10, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- Here's an example of what I'm talking about Category:1942 murders in the Soviet Union. Liz Read! Talk! 05:15, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not following just what the template problem is. The template you name, Template:YYYY crimes in continent category header, would be used on a category like Category:1942 crimes in Asia, and does not seem to do anything wrong when used there. It would not be used on a category like Category:1942 murders in the Soviet Union.
- As for Category:1942 murders in the Soviet Union, it doesn't seem to be using any template that's putting it into both Europe and Asia categories; instead it has specific wikitext
[[Category:{{Title year}} murders in Europe|Soviet Union]]and[[Category:{{Title year}} murders in Asia|Soviet Union]]. - Looking at the articles in Category:1942 murders in the Soviet Union, I'm seeing the relevant categorization is similarly done manually, not via templates.
- Overall, this seems more like a category tree problem than a template problem to me: since Russia is in both continents, we get some semantic drift when traversing the tree. Anomie⚔ 12:03, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- If you're talking about edits like Special:Diff/1363399821 you made to Category:1940 crimes in the Soviet Union to replace Template:YYYY crimes in countryname category header, I suspect you might first want to find out whether there's really consensus that categories like Category:1940 crimes in the Soviet Union should have to be monitored and recategorized as people create or delete articles for crimes in the Europe vs Asia parts of the country. Running soap operas
[edit]I remember there was once a navbox template that listed every US daytime soap opera that was airing at the time - and ONLY those that were airing. Can someone point me to the discussion that resulted in that template's disappearance? (I don't know if it was deleted or redirected.) JHD0919 (talk) 15:50, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- Closest I can find is {{US daytime soaps}} which lists all (but does have a section for "current"). Doesn't look like anything fitting that description was ever deleted, though (or at least not at TFD). Primefac (talk) 16:07, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- There's this old version of a navbox that is a redirect today. There's also this version of a "former soaps" navbox. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:18, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- The former was redirected (boldly) in 2011, for the record. Primefac (talk) 16:23, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- The second navbox Jonesey linked contains a link to a "Current daytime soaps" navbox. That right there, is what I was referring to. Apparently, the former soaps used to be listed from the current soaps before the navboxes were merged. JHD0919 (talk) 20:29, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- It was expanded in 2015 by TAnthony. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:46, 12 July 2026 (UTC)

Being able to hide "‹ The template Infobox (insert what ever infobox it is) is being considered for (insert what ever reason is). ›"
[edit]Being able to do this would do really good so that for us who read articles don't have to be stuck seeing it every time something is going on. I get it that some things need to be merged but if it keeps popping up... we should be able to have a option to hide it. XxNick118xX (talk) 00:21, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- FWIW I find it especially superfluous to ever show this alongside templates that mergers are proposed into. Nardog (talk) 00:41, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- The merge has the potential to affect both templates and therefore is absolutely warranted. These messages are small and only appear for the duration of the TFD (usually 7 days). Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:11, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- There is an option to do this, but with the exception of templates that are substituted it is rarely done. Primefac (talk) 09:16, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- It's not just infoboxes; any template up for TfD could have a message like that. Anyway, is a rule that you could put into Special:MyPage/common.css. It might hide more than you intend. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:56, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
div.tfd-sidebar { display: none; }
- ok, that worked.... thanks! XxNick118xX (talk) 05:17, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
