Sotela is a Costa Rican DJ, record producer and record label owner based in San José. He runs the electronic music label Moonchild Records and has appeared at Costa Rican clubs and festivals since the late 2000s, frequently in a duo with the DJ Javier Portilla.[1]
Career
[edit]Sotela appeared on Costa Rican club and festival bills from 2009, including a Fiestas de Palmares event headlined by Deep Dish.[2] In September 2012 he performed alongside the British DJ Quivver at a San José club night billed with more than twelve Costa Rican DJs,[3] and in November that year at a Club Vértigo event headlined by Sandra Collins with the Argentine DJ Marcelo Vasami.[4]
La República reported in 2015 that Sotela and Javier Portilla were signed to Moonchild Records and to the Dutch label Armada Music, billing him among Costa Rican DJs appearing at an event with Diplo and Borgore.[1] Their track "Your Eyes", featuring the vocalist Emalaine, appeared on Beyond Borders – London, an Armada Music compilation mixed by the British producer King Unique, who discussed his remix of the track for Future Music.[5][6]
He later appeared at larger Costa Rican events, including a January 2016 festival at Pedregal headlined by Steve Aoki that drew a reported 5,000 people,[7] and a March 2016 event opening for Firebeatz and NERVO.[8][9]
His debut album, Neon Dreaming, was released on 4 September 2026 through Turbo Wolf Records.[10]
