- Comment: Concerns have been expressed about the use of WP:VALNET sources in this article. I believe that the use of these sources are acceptable in line with the notes at WP:VALNET. The notes for Game Rant and Screen Rant say that while they cannot be used for BLP, they are reliable enough for other non-controversial statements. This article is not a BLP, and none of the statements cited from them are controversial. Hermitcraft, also written as HermitCraft, is a invite-only[1] survival multiplayer (SMP) Minecraft server and web series that is known for the large-scale builds and redstone projects that its members create.[2] Members, known as "Hermits", are also known to get involved in improvised storylines. Hermitcraft is known for its family-friendly content.[3]
Originally starting in April 2012, Hermitcraft has had 11 vanilla seasons as of late 2026, and it currently has 25 active members. Each of the Hermits of the server creates content chronicling their in-game building and antics, which they post to YouTube in an episodic format or live-stream on Twitch.[4]
Seasons
[edit]Hermitcraft is divided into seasons based around the in-game world. At the beginning of each season, a new Minecraft world is created from a new world seed.[2]

Notable creations and events
[edit]In Season 7, there was a race to be the mayor of the shopping district.[2][1] A resistance then formed against the mayor removing mycelium from the shopping district.[2] In the same season, ZombieCleo erected a colosseum fighting arena and decorated it with custom armor stands modified with a data pack.[5]
In Season 9, two Hermits accidentally destroyed another Hermit's build, which ignited discussions in Twitter.[6] There was also a crossover event with Empires SMP in October 2022.[5]
In Season 10, a Demise event occurred, where a Hermit who dies must hunt someone who hasn't died.[7] A shop permit system was also instituted, restricting Hermits to selling only specific items allowed by their permits.[8]

Cultural impact
[edit]Members of Hermitcraft have participated in Gamers Outreach charity events, giving gaming carts to hospitals with the help of donations.[4]
Some Hermits have created notable Minecraft creations outside the server, such as Etho's hopper clock and Xisumavoid's Bedwars multiplayer minigame.[4]
Outside the server
[edit]Members of the Hermitcraft server occasionally collaborate with members of other servers, such as Empires SMP.[5] Many of the Hermits also participate in the Life Series, a collaborative Minecraft YouTube series run by YouTuber and Hermit Grian.[10]
Dr. Kim Barbour, an associate professor of media studies at Adelaide University,[11] commended the server as an example of non-toxic masculinity.[12] She also analyzed the in-game politics of the "RentheKing" storyline in Season 9.[3]
