The second season of the American animated series Creature Commandos is based on the eponymous team by DC Comics. Set within the DC Universe (DCU), the season will be produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Dean Lorey serves as showrunner.

The season was ordered by HBO Max in December 2024, with production starting by June 2025.

By November 2024, Creature Commandos showrunner Dean Lorey and creator and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn had begun discussions for a second season of the series, but Lorey noted the season's approval would depend on Gunn being available to write more scripts, while Gunn wanted the creative team behind the first season, including Lorey and the directors, to return for a follow-up project.[2][3] In December 2024, ahead of the first season's finale, HBO Max announced that a second season of Creature Commandos had been greenlit, with Lorey returning as showrunner.[4] The season had entered production by June 2025.[5]

Writing

Episodes for the season had been written by October 2025;[6] unlike the first season, which had all its episodes written by executive producer James Gunn, the second season will have its episodes written by a writer's room,[7] with showrunner Dean Lorey writing the first episode.[1] The season takes places after the events of the second season of Peacemaker (2025),[8] the events of which will have an effect on the season.[6] The season will focus on the Creature Commandos line-up introduced at the end of season 1.[9]

Casting and voice recording

In September 2026, Gunn confirmed that voice recording was already underway for the season, with his brother Sean being set to return as both G.I. Robot and Weasel in the upcoming episodes.[10]

Animation

Animatics for the season were in development by July 2026.[11]

Release

The season is set to release in 2027,[9] on HBO Max, with Gunn saying in May 2026 that the season would release "not long after" the premiere of the DCU film Man of Tomorrow (2027).[12]
