Audio Antihero is an independent record label founded in October 2009[1] with a South East London base, now located in Staten Island, New York.[2] The label has released titles from Frog,[3] Nosferatu D2,[4] Cloud,[5] Magana,[6] CIAO MALZ,[7] Tiberius,[8] Avery Friedman,[9] Leilani Patao,[10] The Noisy,[11] Josaleigh Pollett,[12] Darren Hayman,[13] and others.[14][15][16]

History

[edit]

Early years (2009–2013)

[edit]

Audio Antihero launched in October 2009,[17] with its first two releases being Nosferatu D2's We're Gonna Walk Around This City With Our Headphones on to Block Out the Noise[18][19][20] and Benjamin Shaw's I Got the Pox, the Pox Is What I Got.[21][22][23]

In 2011, the label released a series of EPs from Jack Hayter,[24] Broken Shoulder,[25] Wartgore Hellsnicker,[26] Paul Hawkins & The Awkward Silences[27] and Fighting Kites,[28][29] and Benjamin Shaw's debut full-length album There's Always Hope, There's Always Cabernet.[30][31]

Between 2012 and 2013, the label released a twelve-part singles from Jack Hayter entitled The Sisters of St. Anthony.[32][33][34]

Additions to the roster and hiatus (2013–2023)

[edit]

Between 2013 and 2016, Cloud,[35][36] Frog,[37][38] Magana,[39][40] The Superman Revenge Squad Band,[41] and CHUCK[42][43] joined the Audio Antihero roster for a series of releases that ran until 2019.[44][45][46] The label also continued to issue new titles from Benjamin Shaw,[47][48][49] and released albums from defunct groups Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love[50][51] and Tempertwig.[52][53][54]

The label became mostly inactive after a series of compilations and expanded editions of previous catalogue releases.[55][56][57]

Return from hiatus (2023–present)

[edit]

The label returned from hiatus in late 2023[58] for the release of Frog's Grog album.[59][3][60] Two more Frog albums followed in 2025.[61][62][63]

Magana and Ben and Adam Parker (as My Best Unbeaten Brother) returned to the label for new releases,[64][65][66] and roster received new additions between 2024 and 2025 in CIAO MALZ,[67][68] Avery Friedman,[69][70] Leilani Patao,[71][72] Josaleigh Pollett,[73] The Noisy,[74][75] and Tiberius.[8][76][77]

In 2026, Audio Antihero released Frog's Frog for Sale album,[78][79][80] and announced If I Let It Quiet by Josaleigh Pollett[81][82][83] and 'daisy deluxe' by Leilani Patao.[84][85][86] The label also began working with Darren Hayman, reissuing an expanded edition of 'The Violence' in June.[87][88]

After a series of singles[89][90][91] and premieres,[92][93][94] Pollett's If I Let It Quiet was released on July 24 2026,[95][96][97] and accompanied by a tour of Pacific Northwest and East Coast.[98][99][100] The album received 8/10 from New Noise Magazine[101] and 9/10 from PopMatters,[102][103] and peaked at #70 in the NACC 200,[104] due to station support.[105][106][107]

In a continuation of the project with Darren Hayman, Audio Antihero released the TV Themes EP by The French.[108]
