Wildewood is a planned community and census-designated place (CDP) in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. It is in east-central St. Mary's County, 7 miles (11 km) east of Leonardtown, the county seat, and 58 miles (93 km) southeast of Washington, D.C. It is bordered to the east by the unincorporated community of California. Homesites feature large shade trees.

Wildewood was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census[2] which listed a population of 7,821.[3]

2020 census

As of the 2020 census, Wildewood had a population of 7,821. The median age was 34.2 years. 27.5% of residents were under the age of 18 and 10.5% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 91.6 males age 18 and over.[6][7]

100.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 0.0% lived in rural areas.[8]

There were 3,119 households in Wildewood, of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 47.6% were married-couple households, 18.8% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 26.5% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[6]

There were 3,244 housing units, of which 3.9% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 2.0% and the rental vacancy rate was 2.9%.[6]
