Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Weather

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Weather. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion and neither does removing an AfD from this page remove it from the main page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:deletion sorting|Weather|sig=~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Weather. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Typhoon Nuri (2014) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

The storm barely had any impacts and any impacts it had can easily be contained in 2014 Pacific typhoon season. I know a past merge proposal into November 2014 Bering Sea cyclone failed, but many expressed it wasn’t notable enough and should just be in the pacific typhoon article. ~2026-53478-79 (talk) 18:20, 4 October 2026 (UTC)reply

2007 Enterprise tornado (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I propose merging to Tornado outbreak of February 28 – March 2, 2007 because this article is clearly a WP:CFORK, as it adds almost no new information (the tornado summary here is somehow shorter than the one in the outbreak article) and could easily be merged into the outbreak article (which also needs expansion) per WP:SIZERULE. Lightbulb Noob (talk) 23:15, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Support - I don't see the need for this being an article when the outbreak article, as mentioned, has a more detailed summary and also the fact the outbreak article could use a ton of updating / expansion as well. Timcigar12 (talk) 23:56, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Hurricane Nolo (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I propose merging to 2026 Pacific hurricane season because "This article doesn't have a lot of content, and Nolo's impacts in Hawaii seem less then expected (the article was also published prematurely.)" On behalf of User:HawaiiStand, BSH🌸 (talk) - (she/her) 16:33, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply

Merge and redirect. Thankfully, Nolo's impacts in Hawaii were not as bad as initially expected, and I have to agree that this system is impressive in a meteorological perspective (degenerated initially, but eventually regenerated and became a major hurricane). But as for the article, which I started as a draft but was not responsible for publishing it, I have to agree that it was prematurely moved to the main space. Now that Nolo is no longer expected to affect any other land areas, I think it is best to merge it with the 2026 Pacific hurricane season article for now and make this a redirect instead (to also preserve the edit history of this page). Vida0007 (talk) 16:53, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Merge - but as Vida said, make Hurricane Nolo a redirect to preserve edit history. RedAmi! (talk) 17:19, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Update - due to other arguments saying that this storm has extensive meteorological history---lasting almost a month, and that the current coverage for Nolo isn't enough, so I'm saying we Keep the article for now, and wait until any new information is added. RedAmi! (talk) 11:35, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Merge and redirect, as it has not have as bad impacts as expected, and did not get strong enough to be notable for intensity. Mesocyclonic93 (t)(c) 18:10, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Merge and redirect. Has been well said by most impact on land is minimal to warrant a section in the bigger season article rather than a standalone. --AXEdits (talk) 21:03, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait . I say we wait a couple days more, if no major impacts are found, then merge. Dragonzgikil (talk) 21:37, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Merge yeah, the article is quite short, and any impacts could probably be easily merged, as the article is quite short (less than 10k bytes for reference). AutisticYapper (talk) 23:17, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait - per what Dragonzgikil said, i think we should way for a few days or weeks. during that time if no new information about damages or fatalities have been reported during those time periods, then we can Merge ZonResearcher (talk) 00:52, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait per Dragonzgikil. Hurricane Jacob (talk) 02:06, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Merge per this NOAA graphic and this headline from Hawaii News Now indicating that the impacts of the storm have largely passed. Though I may be looking in the wrong places, it appears as though coverage has largely petered out, even in Hawaii, over the last several days. I don't think there's gonna be any more significant tangible impacts that haven't already been covered here, and I'm not certain they're consequential enough to warrant a standalone article.
CSGinger14 (talk) 03:53, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Merge and redirect. Agree with what has already been well stated previosuly. --Erin1973 (talk) 04:57, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait: I'd prefer if Nolo dissipates before considerations for merging the article back in, as the forecasted crossover into the West Pacific might make the article worth keeping for longevity records AnDeargMor (talk) 09:00, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Yeah its possible it lasts a long time, especially with what many of the models say. Dragonzgikil (talk) 12:14, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Just wait. Maybe there's more to the low impacts. If Nolo ever dissipates without doing something noticable, then merge. If it's the opposite, keep. ~2026-50354-25 (talk) 09:13, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Just wait per ~2026-50354-25 stated. Although I do understand Hurricane Nolo has not had any severe impact on Hawaii, it doesn't mean that if Nolo continues to live on for longer/ creates impact to any islands in the Western Pacific Ocean, we won't an article on the hurricane to detail certain timeline factors or impacts to islands, etc. I do hope this makes sense and is a solid argument. Thank you.Daylight Swiftie 14 (talk) 10:19, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Many of the models have it going into the WPAC so yes. Dragonzgikil (talk) 12:10, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Duration and where it wanders in the open ocean are of little consequence when it comes to notability for a stand-alone TC article, as are impacts to uninhabited islands. Drdpw (talk) 13:16, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
...I did also mention the possibility of it hitting more islands along its trajectory, but sorry if I didn't specify.Daylight Swiftie 14 (talk) 11:15, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait — Models have Nolo lasting a long time, at least a week from now if not longer. Could become a fairly long lived system with an extensive MH. Also looks to get very close to Wake Island. Just keep this article open until the storm dissipates and if nothing happens then it can be merged.IrishSurfer21 (talk) 22:06, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I'm not certain it's a typical response for us to wait for more newsworthy events that we believe might occur to transpire per WP:CRYSTALBALL. We do what's right based off the sourcing that does exist, which for the moment indicates that the storm has passed from the location that established its notability in the first place. It's also not like the article can't be split off again were it to gain strength in the West Pacific.
CSGinger14 (talk) 04:09, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
It’s not WP:CRYSTALBALL when weather agencies like the JTWC are currently forecasting a close pass to some islands. That means the established threat isn’t over.IrishSurfer21 (talk) 12:17, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait The storm hasn't even dissipated yet and has an extensive meteorological history, which alone can warrant an article. ChessEric 23:40, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Several storms with extensive meteorological histories, even in hyperactive seasons, have been merged - see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hurricane Hector (2018) (2nd nomination). That being said, there might be some stuff worth adding to the article. ~2026-52752-05 (talk) 00:25, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
I'd like to say that Hurricane Hector only lasted a fortnight under the guise of the Pacific Hurricane season, then 3 additional days in the Pacific Typhoon season, whereas this one has been existent for nearly a month now, so... we may need to factor that into reconsideration, perhaps?Daylight Swiftie 14 (talk) 11:20, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
@Daylight Swiftie 14 "only"? GiftedIceCream 13:07, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
@GiftedIceCream Well, I'm doing it based of the system being officially designated as a tropical depression and when the Western Pacific deemed it dissipated, because statistically (and based on basic math) the answer is correct. Unless you would like me to factor in when it was first being monitored and other dates of possible existence, please let me know.Daylight Swiftie 14 (talk) 20:50, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Tropical cyclones on average only last from 4-7 days. A fortnight is 14 days. GiftedIceCream 03:07, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Yes, thanks for instating that.Daylight Swiftie 14 (talk) 11:09, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait or Keep This article has been newly created and has a chance to get significant expansion. ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 14:27, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Wait for the full impacts to be known. We can always delete later once it's dissipated if it isnt notable.
Noah, BSBATalk 16:29, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep I think the storm has made enough in terms of notability both in meteorological history and impacts. MarioJump83 (talk) 02:25, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
With the storm passing International Date Line, I think this storm has reached full threshold of notability. MarioJump83 (talk) 01:48, 5 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep Now it will move to WPAC and become a typhoon, and models are predicting it could rival Hurricane John in duration, so it will be notable for a very long-lived crossover storm. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 02:54, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep - Hurricane Nolo feels more than notable enough for an article considering it's meteorological history alone. Traversing all three Pacific basins is already something only eight other storms prior have accomplished. Beyond that, land impacts in Hawaii as mentioned above still has more to be added to add to the article's length. Although we cannot count all of the days since September 13, Nolo is expected to last for up to a week longer which will put it among the longest-lived Pacific hurricanes. There's a lot that can still be added about Nolo and the storm has proved it's meteorological worth as one of the most memorable storms of this season, even though it failed to reach Category 5 intensity. VantaWiki (talk) 09:54, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
While Hurricane Nolo may not be too notable for impacts for now, I will have to vote keep for the article since it is rare for a Hurricane to cross from the Eastern Pacific to the Western Pacific Basin, given it has already reach major hurricane/typhoon once and may become one again. Plus it has a small chance of affecting Japan, within a couple weeks from now. Owen is the best GG (talk) 11:04, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep once the MH is updated. ~2026-53153-87 (talk) 18:06, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep - Nolo will potentially near Japan after forming near Mexico a month ago. Like others have said, it may rival John and could already be considered the longest tracked system by longitude alone. WeatherBoyWheeler (talk) 18:52, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep Likely to cross the International Date Line and enter western Pacific, making a rare move. --A1Cafel (talk) 03:35, 4 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep The storm has now entered the Western Pacific, it will probably survive five more days so it will be one of the longest-lived and tracked hurricane/typhoon on record. It has lived in all three bassins (Eastern, Central and Western Pacific), a rare feature. Jérôme1512 (talk) 21:01, 4 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Wait or Keep I'd say at least wait for now as there seems to be decent precedent for Nolo being a notable storm and the article can be expanded already with new info. Sria-72 (talk)
