Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Syria
| Points of interest related to Syria on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Syria. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Syria|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Syria. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Middle East.

The subject is an appointed member of a transitional assembly. The article fails WP:GNG as it lacks significant, independent secondary source coverage focusing on the individual. Sakiv (talk) 09:01, 9 August 2026 (UTC)

WP:RUNOFTHEMILL attack, with no lasting notability. Militant.Insurgency (talk) 23:38, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- Keep - this article has nothing to do with RUNOFTHEMILL or GNG; there are thousands of articles that are the same size, maybe even smaller; This article hasn't even reached its full size yet. By this logic, over 10,000 articles should be deleted with the same reason. NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 23:41, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- How does it have nothing to do with RUNOFTHEMILL? This kind of attack is very common in Syria. Militant.Insurgency (talk) 02:42, 9 August 2026 (UTC)

I propose merging this page into People's Assembly (Syria) because the content heavily overlaps with it, and there is no need to keep the two topics separate. Additionally, the infobox is misused here, as it is designed specifically for single-person offices. Sakiv (talk) 00:12, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

- I strongly object to merging this article into People's Assembly (Syria).
- This article covers a distinct subject that carries its own independent encyclopedic value and historical/procedural significance. Merging it would lead to an overly long main article and diminish the depth of information available on this specific topic.
- I am actively expanding the content with additional reliable third-party sources and references to firmly demonstrate its standalone notability. I kindly request keeping this as an independent page. David076 (talk) 05:20, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- I am actively working on improving this page and adding reliable references to prove its standalone notability. Since I am dedicated to making this article better, I would highly appreciate it if experienced editors could help or guide me in expanding and formatting it properly, rather than merging or deleting it. David076 (talk) 05:22, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- I also object to merging this article as well, though it's mostly regarding keeping consistency with other similar articles (e.g. Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha). Caltine (talk) 07:20, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- Note: this discussion has been included in the list of Politicians-related AfD discussions. WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 16:30, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- Merge selectively per nominator's rationale. Immense WP:OVERLAP and also WP:SHORTTEXT. If other pages are so small and overlap so much as Caltine says, those should be merged as well, not the opposite. FaviFake (talk) 19:15, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- Object to merge: While I understand the concerns regarding WP:SHORTTEXT and WP:OVERLAP, I respectfully disagree with merging.
- The role of a Member of the People's Assembly is distinct from the institution itself—it focuses on the election process, member eligibility, parliamentary immunities, term limits, and duties. I am currently working on expanding the article with relevant secondary sources and comprehensive details regarding these aspects to address the length issue and bring it in line with similar articles like Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.
- I kindly request keeping the article separate while it is being expanded. David076 (talk) 05:29, 9 August 2026 (UTC)

I am not sure about the notability of this article. That said, this article also lacks citations. I don’t know how it was never challenged. Morris (talk with this worm) 11:47, 7 August 2026 (UTC)

- Delete Even for a 2005 creation, I'm very confused why someone thought this needed an article beyond inclusion in Madrid Conference of 1991. Reywas92Talk 14:32, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Keep because in and of itself it is an important part of history and is therefore both WP:N and is its own WP:RS. IZAK (talk) 19:27, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Notability cannot come from primary sources. Are there secondary sources talking about the importance and meaning of this letter in detail? Without those, there can be no article. M kuhner (talk) 20:42, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- There are many events that are significant in themselves but have not been covered by reliable media. While both the WP:N and WP:V sections state that notability is not the only factor determining whether an article may exist, a letter is a primary source and is significant only to the people involved in the correspondence. This page, therefore, constitutes an indiscriminate collection of information, and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. I propose merging to List of terrorist incidents linked to the Islamic State and List of terrorist incidents in Syria because this fails WP:NEVENT, specifically WP:PERSISTENCE. It also fails WP:NOPAGE, and since there isn't any scholarly or news analysis of the event itself, it is better to put it in a list. Many of the news articles that can be found, if not all, just duplicate each other to a large extent. Good lists are supposed to give information of the things they collect, so it would be more encyclopedic if they were merged. It should not be deleted since it is sourced information, which while not notable, is due for inclusion in the list pages I suggested HerrHeulsuse (talk) 08:02, 26 July 2026 (UTC)

- Merge per WP:SHORTTEXT. FaviFake (talk) 14:05, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Well, you have to pick one target to redirect to for technical reasons. List of terrorist incidents linked to the Islamic State seems more precise so I'd go with that. PARAKANYAA (talk) 06:39, 28 July 2026 (UTC)

- Merge as having it merged to List of terrorist incidents in Syria would make it easier to have content in one place instead of having to access another article for this incident.Farhanansari1994 (talk) 05:40, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- Merge: This article should be merged to List of terrorist incidents in Syria Alazar202 (talk) 08:49, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Consensus seems to be for merging, but to what?
