Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Japan
| Points of interest related to Japan on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Japan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Japan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Japan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

I am not sure if this individual team season meets notability. The sources are mostly primary sources and a betting website. MarcusAbacus (talk) 06:48, 7 August 2026 (UTC)

Mostly an unreferenced list, and I found no evidence of meeting WP:NEO. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 17:26, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

- Keep - This page happened because Street Fighter fans kept making pages falsely claiming Street Fighter invented the term. They will just do it again if deleted. Evan1975 (talk) 21:26, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Delete - Without any actual reliable sources, the article is pure WP:OR. It is obviously difficult to search for reliable sources regarding the topic as an English speaker, as if any exist they would likely be in Japanese, but even if they exist, the article would still need to be deleted and rewritten from scratch as this is nothing but a list of examples that, again, appear to rely entirely on original research. Rorshacma (talk) 23:00, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Merge to Street Fighter II or Ryu, where it currently appears most prominently. The term appears in and is defined in secondary sources, but I believe not discussed in a way to warrant a stand-alone article, therefore merging would be what the WP:ATD policy suggests. If there's a better, Street Fighter-independent target I've not seen it but would welcome the input. In addition possibly transwiki to Wiktionary. Several articles use the term without properly defining it, so that it would make understanding worse if this article was simply deleted. @Evan1975: The secondary sources I've seen define it as a fictional martial arts style without referring to Street Fighter, but they don't make it clear where the term comes from and that it's not originating with that game. If you would know any proper source making this clear, that would be really helpful. Daranios (talk) 10:15, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Kaoani (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
I cannot find any significant coverage on this topic anywhere online. I can only find ancient blog posts with some example kaoani gifs. I think it'd be most appropriate to either delete this article entirely or merge to something like Kaomoji or Emoji. 21stcenturycoelacanth (talk) 22:02, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- This article on JSTOR briefly references kaoani as an influence on/predecessor to subsequent Web 2.0 emoticons and emojis (or at least that's what I'm discerning through autotranslate). I'll see if I can find additional sources. Morgan695 (talk) 23:18, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Merge to Kaomoji or Emoji per nominator, or delete. The subject lacks WP:SIGCOV in reliable sources. Existing references are mostly brief or historical mentions rather than in-depth independent discussion of "Kaoani" as a distinct topic. The content of the existing article would be better handled in broader articles on emojis rather than as a standalone page.

I propose draftifying because this is clearly WP:TOOSOON and WP:CRYSTAL . All sources are just churnalism of the same comic con announcement. WP:PRIMARY. I'm not seeing any reliable, secondary coverage of the subject that confirms production has actually begun. Should be incubated in draftspace until we get more info. - Waiting for production to begin is a valid method for filtering new film articles, but not something like this. If it's been announced then production has been well underway for some time already. Since it's part of an extremely notable franchise and will be a major television series airing on multiple major networks, I don't see the value in moving it to draft. —Xezbeth (talk) 08:49, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Delete from article space and Merge with Draft:Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO as too soon for article space. Robert McClenon (talk) 05:37, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

Comment on the talk pages of the articles, not here. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.
