I propose redirecting to Tammy Duckworth because the subject of this biography has not received significant secondary source coverage except in one area (1) An incident in 2024 during which the subject was assisted by Tammy Duckworth in leaving the Gaza Strip
The subject is now a candidate for political office but has not received significant secondary source coverage outside of standard political horserace coverage. I propose redirecting this article, mentioning the incident (1) in the Tammy Duckworth article, and then perhaps restoring this article if the subject becomes notable later (perhaps by winning political office) Apex-nurse (talk) 13:44, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

- Keep. The Wikipedia policy that you are invoking without directly naming is WP:BLP1E, which says that three criteria must be met for the subject to be considered non-notable. I assert that the third of those criteria is not met, meaning there is notability. It says:
The event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented.
- The event was widely covered in the Washington Post, NBC News, NBC News again, The Intercept, The Intercept again, NPR, Jacobin, WABC-TV, CBS News, Politico, Bergen Record, News Nation, and even internationally in The Independent (UK). The event itself required direct involvement by a US Senator and President to be resolved, which also contributes to its notability.
- The trip itself before they were trapped was covered as well in The Washington Post, Bergen Record, NJ Spotlight News, and internationally in Anadolu Ajansi
- Each of the above sources mention the subject and contain biographical information. Many even refer to him in the headline of the article. So it seems indisputable that he had a significant role in the event itself.
- Don't know if meta arguments hold any weight, but when this article was created, there were already 3 articles in the mainspace that referred to him by name. (Disability in Palestine, Gaza European Hospital, Timeline of the Gaza Strip healthcare collapse, and Effect of the Gaza war on children in the Gaza Strip).
- All of that is not even considering his current candidacy of course, as all above sources were published before that. In regards to his candidacy, I do believe that many of the same reasons given in the AFD for Graham Platner that resulted in Keep also apply here. Namely, that since becoming a candidate there has been substantial biographical coverage in reliable sources,123, and about his connections to Senator Tammy Duckworth12 (who talks about him in her 2021 biography), Bonnie Watson Coleman123, and even Omar Abdul-Rahman.123,45 Edittttor (talk) 15:13, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep - I do not agree with the rationale of the nominator. Hamawy has received significant coverage from secondary sources (not just for his candidacy) that also cover biographical information, as Edittttor has outlined above. The nomination implicitly invokes WP:BLP1E as a reason to redirect, but Hamawy does not fit that criteria... Editttor asserts that he doesn't fit the 3rd criteria for "notable only for one event", and I am going further to say he doesn't fit the 2nd criteria of BLP1E, either:
The person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual.
The amount of coverage about Hamawy (not just naming him: talking at length about him) is significant & he is hardly a "low-profile individual". It's not all about his candidacy, either. Also technically, the nomination is conflating two events as one just because they both involve Duckworth: Hamawy saved Duckworth's life in 2004 (covered at-length in Chicago Mazagine in 2021) and then in 2024 he was trapped with other doctors in Gaza (covered extensively in this article). These are two separate events. Hamawy is notable. Chao Garden 🌱 (hi) 16:32, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep + strong oppose redirect to Tammy Duckworth. Others have covered the former well already, but I want to push back specifically on a redirect to Duckworth's article, which seems exceptionally tenuous considering how narrowly she factors into the article's overall scope. Basically, three mentions -- the lifesaving incident, the Gaza intervention, and an endorsement (among many others) for his current House campaign -- on a C-class article. That's next to nothing! This article probably shouldn't be redirected, and it certainly shouldn't be redirected to that particular target. DiscoursesonLivvy (talk · contribs) 00:40, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep I think there is enough sourcing about the subject prior to their candidacy to meet GNG. While we should not evaluate a subject based on coverage of their political candidacy alone, we cannot turn a blind eye to the coverage a subject receives as a candidate as well. --Enos733 (talk) 02:21, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep - copying my support position from the Adam Hamawy talk page: WP:POLITICIAN states: "Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet" WP:GNG, which states: "A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Adam Hamawy clearly fits these requirements. Orca🐋 (talk) 12:24, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep the subject comfortably meets the requirements under the general notability guideline, also Iraq War vetera, saving life to the U.S. Senator Duckwoth. --Leuvraethi mer Dorus (talk) 08:35, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep Notabilility standards are clearly met and he passes multiple notability standards including WP:NPOL. Agnieszka653 (talk) 19:45, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
