– Recently {{Infobox Korean}} was moved from {{Infobox Chinese/Korean}}. However, I'm not a fan of this name; one would assume "Infobox Korean" would be the main infobox that most people should use, similar to how {{Infobox Chinese}} is the one everyone uses. However, what is currently {{Infobox Korean name}} is the one most people should use; the current {{Infobox Korean}} is more just a base template that's called by various other templates and basically doesn't really need to be called on its own.

Tl;dr I'm doing this to avoid confusion between {{Infobox Korean name}} and {{Infobox Korean}} and steer people to using the current Infobox Korean name. grapesurgeon (talk) 04:47, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

    Right; although I think the confusion will be quite rare. Most people will probably never see "Infobox Korean base". If they do see it, they'll quickly realize it's not what they're looking for. Also, milhist people will already be aware of {{Infobox military installation}}.

    Even "Infobox Korean"/"Infobox Chinese" is vague; "Korean people"? Korean language? grapesurgeon (talk) 19:02, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

As a side note, should probably keep {{Infobox Korean name}} as a redirect to {{Infobox Korean}} if/when the move happens. Will also need to redirect like {{Infobox Korean name/auto}} to {{Infobox Korean/auto}} etc. grapesurgeon (talk) 04:13, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Support rename, with caveat As the one one who initiated the move from {{Infobox Chinese/Korean}} I FULLY support this. My initial goal was to get this out of being a subtemplate of {{Infobox Chinese}}. Fully support a better and clearer name. User:Grapesurgeon can I suggest instead:

• Move {{Infobox Korean}} to {{Infobox Korean/base}}
• Move {{Infobox Korean name}} to {{Infobox Korean}} (as you suggested)

Hm. Actually yeah I think that's better.

I had thought of that before but initially decided against it. I used to think the flipped base/child template relationship is weird. As in, Infobox Korean base is actually technically the "parent", and Infobox Korean would be a child derived from the parent. Yet, the "/" relationship implies base is a child of the derivative. IMHO the "base" template should be what is used in articles while the "child" should be implemented within the base template but almost never directly called in an article. Hope that helps. Zackmann (^{Talk to me}/_{What I been doing}) 22:01, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Yea I was less thinking about what happens in article space and more that "x/y" generally implies "x is the parent of y" (i.e. "infobox korean is the parent of infobox korean/base"). But what we're doing is flipped from that, so can feel counterintuitive. I don't really think it strongly matters though, things like this sometimes happen grapesurgeon (talk) 22:06, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Move double checking

Hey @Chaotic Enby, thanks for handling a lot of the moves. Just double checking; is Template:Infobox Korean name/auto going to be moved to Template:Infobox Korean/auto as well? Seems to not have gone through yet. grapesurgeon (talk) 21:15, 10 December 2025 (UTC)

@Chaotic Enby Could you also take a look at {{Infobox Korean television name}} as when using it on | native_name = parameter on both {{Infobox film}} and {{Infobox television}}, a header appeared and when editing the ib there's some "preview warning" appearing which shouldn't be the case. Well, it was not really necessary to move Template:Infobox Korean name/auto to Template:Infobox Korean/auto. Currently, the non-auto version is being replaced by the auto version, and when the conversion is complete, what is currently in the Template:Infobox Korean name/auto (or Template:Infobox Korean/auto) will be simply copied to Template:Infobox Korean. Something similar was already done to Template:Infobox Korean television name (auto template created → converted every instance of non-auto to auto → content of auto template copied to non-auto). ~2025-39972-57 (talk) 08:29, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

Before the copy paste happens, it's more proper to have the subsetted template in the right place. This is a particularly semantic debate, idk if it merits a discussion past these comments.
