Remove the "xxx redirects here" part from the top, that would go in the {{redirect-distinguish}} , not this one Cyber the tiger🐯 (talk) 21:41, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

@CyberTheTiger, Could you identify a case where this occurs? Sohom (talk) 02:42, 1 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
 Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate.
Are you perhaps talking about the hatnote "Template:Confused" redirects here. Not to be confused with 'Template:Confused?'. at the top of the documentation of the template? —andrybak (talk) 23:31, 8 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I just came to comment on the same thing, maybe moving that line above the shaded box will help differentiate that that is not a sample of this template. It kind of appears that way now. - Adolphus79 (talk) 23:49, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Can this template be formatted as Not to be confused with Interagency Weaponization Working Group, instead of the following?

rootsmusic (talk) 22:18, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I needed to do this for something else so I worked out that you can do this by escaping the vertical line | such as by using the magic word {{!}}. This is actually explained in the documentation when it's talking about how to remove (disambiguation) at the end. So what you would do is:
{{distinguish|Targeting of political opponents and civil society under the second Trump administration#Interagency Weaponization Working Group{{!}}Interagency Weaponization Working Group}}
That's a bit more satisfying than what I proposed on your talk page.
And just in case anyone sees this, you're not really supposed to do this and remember redirects are cheap! – Mullafacation『talk』 17:27, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Mullafacation, I didn't know about magic words! Creating a redirect to that section is the ideal solution. If that redirect's linked section changes its heading though, that redirect would subsequently need to be modified. (By the way, {{!}} changes the formatting of a section heading in the {{copied}} template but doesn't actually scroll the display to that section, when the link is clicked.) rootsmusic (talk) 18:53, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that's a good point. I can't remember where it says this but one of the applications of redirecting is to have a central way of retargeting all of the wikilinks after a section changes name but when I'm retargeting wikilinks I generally won't create a redirect if it's the only page that links there because it doesn't make things any easier having a redirect in that case because of the problem you mentioned. Redirects can be costly indeed.
That's odd with the {{copied}} template. I could poke around at it until it works I suppose but the actual thing is written as a Lua module so I wouldn't know what I'm doing. Normally templates are actually written in normal wikitext but that gets a bit complicated and hard to manage. Up until 2014 in fact, {{!}} used to be just a regular template and the entire coding behind it was just | and that worked. – Mullafacation『talk』 19:55, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
