Template:MilLeadership

Template documentationview edit history purge

This template uses Lua:

Module:MilLeadership

Usage

Builds a unit leadership table (commanding officers, RSMs, chaplains, and similar posts) from a list of people and from/to dates. Award codes use Module:MilAward, not Template:Post-nominals/ZAR.

This is the Lua successor to Post-start / Post-header / Post-member / End. Those templates stay in place until pages are converted.

Do not put a raw pipe (|) between fields in a post list. MediaWiki would treat it as a new template parameter. Use MilLdr (recommended) or the // list form.

For more than one post (COs, RSMs, chaplains), prefer |content= with == Post name == headings so the sections stay in the order you type them.

Recommended: nested `MilLdr`

List form

Same data without MilLdr. Fields are separated by space-slash-slash-space ( // ):

A compact year range is accepted: * 1978–1982 // Cmdt // Name

Ribbons

Off by default. |ribbons=yes adds a right-hand column and draws a small MilAward Stack for any row that has awards=. Default stack size is x8px (override with |ribbon_size=x10px).

Parameters

Parameter	Description
`caption`	Table caption
`float`	`right`, `left`, or `center`/`centre`. Default: normal left alignment per MOS:TABLELEFT (not floated, not centred). Empty `float=` is the same as omitting it.
`color`	Header/border colour. Default `#CF9C65`
`country`	Reserved (ZAR). Award lookup is via MilAward codes, which are global.
`ribbons`	`yes` to show the ribbon column. Default off.
`ribbon_size`	File height for the ribbon column. Default `x8px`
`nocat`	`yes` to suppress tracking categories
`content`	Optional single blob using `== Post name ==` headings instead of named parameters
any other named parameter	Treated as a post heading. The value is the member list. Order follows the order you type the parameters.

Per person (MilLdr or list extras)

Field	Description
`1` / `from`	From date (display string: `1978`, `Nov 1978`, `Jan 1981`)
`2` / `to`	To date
`3` / `rank`	Rank or style at the time of the posting (Cmdt, WO1, Ds, …)
`4` / `name`	Name. Wikilink it yourself; this template will not invent links.
`awards`	MilAward codes, comma-separated: `SD, SM, MMM`
`note`	Explanatory footnote (efn). Prefer `note-1` when using numbered named notes.
`note-name` / `named-note`	Single named efn (e.g. `RIP`). First defining row also sets `note=`; later rows use the name only. Do not repeat this parameter on the same MilLdr call.
`named-note-1`, `named-note-2`, …	Multiple named efn names on one row (aliases `NamedNote-N`, `note-name-N`). Pair with `note-1`, `note-2`, … for definition text. Example: `\|named-note-1=LaterBrigadierGeneral\|named-note-2=LaterHonoraryColonel\|note-2=Later Honorary Colonel`
`notes`	Extra footnotes, separated by `;;` (or `Name: text ;; Name2: text`)
`ref`	Citation, wrapped in `<ref>` unless it already contains one
`link`	If the name is not already a wikilink: `yes` wraps `name`, or a page title wraps `name`
`vacant`	`yes` shows `No permanent appointment` when the name is empty

The article still needs notelist (and reflist) where footnotes/references are collected.
