Elford & Foot

It being the case that William Foot pursued the Winterbotham matter, he is fairly likely to be the Foot of Elford & Foot. It appears that Elford is Jonathan Elford, brother of William Elford.

Information about the Elford family is in a book about William Elford Leach. His mother Jenny Elford is by all accounts (for example FamilySearch the sister of Jonathan and William. On that basis Jonathan Wells Elford 1752-1823 married Charlotte Wynne.

The book Rifle-green by Nature about Leach has detailed information, that I can only read partially by Google snippet from p.438. Sidenote 58 reads "christened Kingsbridge 1748". Now that would be a confusion with the short-lived elder brother John Elford born 1743? It goes on "Attorney, Plymouth Dock. Partner Elford & Foot, Attorneys, 1797." Also problematic but the partnership might not have been formal in 1793. "Deputy Recorder of Tintagel, Cornwall 1781-1786; Recorder 1786-1810. Town Clerk and Deputy Recorder, Bossiney, 1791-1798 (not as onerous [...] Bossiney was a rotten borough of about 20 cottages); Lt-Col., First Devon Local Militia, until 1812."
