Hi, regarding the 'lack of women' topos as an explanation, this article explains the lack of women as a consequence of female infanticide (with a source that looks like a stack of 'we cannot exclude' maybes, btw), while the article 'Viking Expansion' attributes it to polygamy among the Upper Two, with few references at all. Grammatical and phrasing issues in the introduction

I admit that I don't edit Wikipedia articles often but the first sentence of the introduction ("The Viking Age (about 800–1050 CE) was the period during the Middle Ages when Norsemen known as Vikings undertook large-scale raiding, colonising, conquest, and trading throughout Europe and reached North America." at the time of writing) contains a clear grammatical error and is just badly phrased in general. "large-scale" is an adjective and in that sentence is used to describe a series of verbs, which is grammatically incorrect. If I'm being honest the whole first paragraph needs to be rewritten. For example, it mentions that Norsemen were called vikings twice which is obviously redundant. I am making this post because I have tried to fix some of these issues just for them to be reverted without any attempt to fix the underlying problems. TMK191002 (talk) 02:58, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
The text was confusing, but not actually redundant so I have changed the word order to clarify the intended meaning:
Although few of the Scandinavians of the Viking Age were Vikings in the sense of being engaged in piracy, they are often referred to as Vikings as well as Norsemen.
Also, raiding, colonising,... and trading are gerunds, not verbs, and they function as nouns, so it's appropriate to modify them with adjectives such as "large-scale". Carlstak (talk) 17:02, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, is there a particular reason why the article has room to cover comparatively small regions like Courland, Wales, and, pardon me, Scotland, while banishing East Frankia, arguably the second largest area of Western Europe after West Frankia, to a mere linked secondary article?
