Percentage of Collagen that’s Type I
[edit]Regarding: ”Type I collagen is the most abundant collagen of the human body, consisting of around 90% of the body's total collagen in vertebrates.”
I was trying to trace the origins of this claim, and I’m starting to suspect that this claim is not well supported. I’ve seen slightly different claims that Type I and III, or fibril collagen make up 90% of all collagen. When I trace these claims back to original sources, I seem to hit dead ends or claims that 90% of specifically bone collagen is type I, so I think some authors may have incorrectly stated the claim, and then it got repeated all over the internet. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find an original source giving a proportion, so an expert may need to do some sleuthing Pabnau (talk) 20:28, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
