Virgin Goddess ??
[edit]What is the reference for Tuonetar being a virgin? I'm not finding it in the Kalevala. 71.221.97.177 (talk) 13:53, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Kalevala only
[edit]For your consideration: The name Tuonetar does not appear in Finnish (or Karelian) runic songs as anything other than a typo of Tuometar (bird cherry forest spirit). The ruler of the Finnish underworld is Loviatar/Louhi (who are the same person in myth) and this is also where the "Tuonetar" character in Kalevala comes from, the finwiki article on this says as much as well ("Tuonelan emäntä on ilmeisesti pohjimmiltaan samaa alkuperää kuin Louhi") even when that article is lacking in references. So she is purely a Kalevala character (mythology wise outside of Kalevala you could put "Tuonetar", Loviatar and Louhi all in one and quite frankly the same goes for Tuonela and Pohjola). -- Vilutar (talk) 12:00, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
