I am disclosing a conflict of interest with respect to this article. I am a faculty member in the Yale University Department of Physics and a colleague of Professor Girvin. I have no financial relationship with the subject. I have made edits to update factual information (administrative roles, recent research results, awards) that was missing or outdated, sourced to Yale University press releases, peer-reviewed journal publications, and the subject's institutional profile.
