I have removed the assertion that he wrote his own epitaph - d’Assonville, author of the citation concerned make no mention of the author of the epitaph - his exact text was "S.J. du Toit is bestempel as "die vader van die Afrikaanse taal"." followed by footnote where he clarified his source as "Die woorde op sy graf, Kleinbos, distrik Paarl" (pg 203) of the citation. I have checked out the article by the same name on the Afrikaans wiki and would have ported over the Skryfwerk (Writings) section, but none of it is sourced. Someone bilingual in both English and Afrikaans should check that out. BigChrisKenney (talk) 05:01, 27 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
