Hello fellow editors,

While reviewing the "External links" section of the Steganography article, I noticed that several of the currently listed links appear to be dead or broken. Specifically, the following entries no longer resolve to active or functional content:

• Information Hiding: Steganography & Digital Watermarking
• Covert Channels in the TCP/IP Suite
• Network Steganography Centre Tutorials
• Invitation to BPCS-Steganography.
• File Format Extension Through Steganography

In addition to this cleanup suggestion, I would like to propose an interactive online tool that could serve as an excellent, hands-on educational reference for readers looking to understand and visualize LSB steganography in action:

• ShizuDesk LSB Steganography Interactive Demo – A web-based utility demonstrating the practical embedding of text or hidden images inside another host image.

RfC: Cleaning up broken external links and updating with modern live tools

The "External links" section of this article currently contains outdated and broken links (including legacy Flash-based demonstrations that no longer function in modern browsers). This reduces the quality and verifiability of the article for readers looking for practical implementations of steganography. I would like to propose a brief cleanup: 1. Removing the dead/broken links. 2. Adding a reference/link to a modern, fully client-side web tool (HTML5/JavaScript) that safely demonstrates image steganography directly in the browser without any server-side data processing. Since my previous anonymous query went unnoticed for two weeks, I am launching this RfC from this newly registered account to get a consensus on making the external links section functional again, and to verify if the community agrees on adding a privacy-focused, modern demonstration tool. These changes seems like non-contentious maintenance edits that will improve the quality of the article. Although it is great you decided to try to get consensus before making your edits, if your changes are solely intended to improve the quality of the article for readers and they do not significantly alter the already present content, be BOLD and make the changes yourself :)

I agree with the above. If nobody has challenged you then there is no dispute. You can just go ahead and boldly remove them. Be confident in yourself, you seem to have gotten this one correct. Also, per our guideline on external links, affirmative consensus is needed to include any external links that have been challenged. In other words: you can remove them and if someone wants to challenge your removal they have to demonstrate a consensus for including the external links. ⹃Maltazarian ^{ᚾparley$\lor$investigateᛅ} 03:19, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

I'm afraid that it is not that simple. Yes, Elikadima can (and should) certainly delete the garbage external links but that was never the issue. The big problem is the WP:conflict of interest in posting a link to their own work. No, they can't do that. Their request is for an established editor to review the work and make a judgement on whether it adds value and doesn't offend WP:elno. (I don't have the expertise to do it.) Thank you all for the valuable feedback. I completely understand and respect the caution regarding WP:EL and the strict need to prevent promotional links or directory clutter. That is absolutely the right approach for a high-quality article like this.

My sole intention is pedagogical. From a practical engineering perspective, understanding how LSB steganography actually manipulates bits in PNG or WAV files can be quite abstract for readers without a visual aid. To solve this, I developed an interactive, open-source simulation (entirely non-commercial, zero ads, purely educational) to demonstrate the bit-shifting process in real-time.

Since you are far more experienced with Wikipedia’s manual of style and community consensus than I am, I would prefer to leave the execution entirely in your hands. Instead of me adding anything directly, I invite any seasoned editor here to look at the tool/logic and decide if or how it can be integrated appropriately—whether as an external educational resource, a reference for a technical section, or even just as inspiration for expanding the text.
