Despite ridiculous attempts to globalize this article, spring break (in the sense of college students getting drunk and having sex in the spring vacation) is an almost exclusively American concept. The attempts to link it to other spring traditions in the rest of the world are misleading and preposterous. There's nothing wrong with having an article on SB in the US, but it shouldn't pretend that this is a global phenomenon, which it certainly isn't. Ef80 (talk) 20:30, 4 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, this article has the exact same problem as Tenth grade and all the other "grade" articles. An article has been started about an American topic, and then editors have tried to expand and equate it with similar, but different, concepts in other countries. It simply doesn't work. --Escape Orbit(Talk)14:22, 10 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Totally agree. I'm going to incredibly bold and remove almost everything from this article. The phrase Spring Break is an American cultural concept that may have had some export into other countries, but it's probably better if we start all over again.Seaweed (talk) 18:39, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

It can be argued that the holiday of spring break is not a cultural event. Spring break, a compulsory week-off holiday, isn’t seen as a cultural event in America. Corporate America have tried to popularize some practices within the season of Spring Break, but such celebratory practices are not manifest in the cultural livelihoods of the American household, and are nothing more than entertainment fiction. However, just because Americans don’t believe it to be a cultural event, does not mean it doesn’t exist as one. However, spring break is not defined by vacation, nor are the long summer vacations in Europe defining of summer in Europe. American culture does not celebrate the holiday of spring break, they simply have chosen to observe that they have a week off after having been mandatorily granted leave on an annual national calendar. It is not an event that was developed by a local, regional, or national culture over time. Vacation itself is a modern cultural phenomenon that has spread throughout the world in recent years, and was not even previously considered for 99% of people living in the world during most of history. Spring break’s associations with vacation and media does not make itself a cultural event, however. HoosierMidwesterner (talk) 16:58, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
