Hi, @Stragulator: I managed to find an archive for the Bodleian Library ref that you deleted. I recently came across an archiving site which seems to be able to find almost anything (in my limited experience) that was ever reffed on WP, namely Wikiwix.

It's not immediately obvious how to navigate the site: the best way I've found to access it is by pasting this in your browser URL window: https://archive.wikiwix.com/cache/?url= followed by the dead link, eg https://archive.wikiwix.com/cache/?url=http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/news/2008_jan_18. This led me to the Bodleian's own archive, https://wayback.archive-it.org/6780/20210201105045/https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/news?result_16012_result_page=23 and thus the final archive https://wayback.archive-it.org/6780/20210202025228/https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/news/2008/2008_jan_18 which I restored.

The trusty Wayback Machine doesn't work in all cases, and I so far I would definitely recommend the Wixiwix site, which has worked for me with minimum fuss, unlike Wayback. If I may suggest: if you come across a dead link, or even a very dead link, I would tend to use {{dead link}} or even {{permanent dead link}} rather than deleting the ref completely, for reasons given above. PS Don't know if this would be of any use: Biography & Epitaph of Ralph Sheldon c.1537, d.1613 by Hilary Turner (2014). MinorProphet (talk) 20:42, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
