Environmental litigation

In 2022, Seaman Paper Company was named as a defendant in a federal class-action lawsuit concerning PFAS contamination affecting residential drinking water wells in Westminster, Massachusetts. The lawsuit alleges that paper sludge and waste materials generated by several paper companies were transported to the Massachusetts Natural Fertilizer Company facility, where the material was processed and distributed as fertilizer or compost. Plaintiffs claim the waste contained PFAS chemicals that subsequently contaminated groundwater used by nearby homes.

Seaman Paper and other companies named in the lawsuit have denied the allegations.
