Hello, I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I am not requesting to edit the article directly, but I would like to request an independent review of proposed improvements. I have prepared a draft expansion based on published sources covering my business career, public service as Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, and Holocaust remembrance activities. I would be grateful if experienced editors could review the material and decide what, if anything, should be incorporated in accordance with Wikipedia’s policies, particularly the biographies of living persons (BLP) policy. I have a conflict of interest regarding this article because I am the subject of the biography. I am therefore not requesting direct changes myself, but would be grateful if independent editors could review the following proposed additions.
The aim is to improve the article by adding reliably sourced information about Robert Voss's career in the international metals and recycling industry, his public service as Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, and his involvement in Holocaust remembrance and education.
The proposed text is based on published sources, including government announcements, established publications and independent profiles. Robert Voss CBE
Robert Voss CBE is a British businessman and public servant who has served as Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire since 2017. Before his appointment as Lord-Lieutenant, he had a career spanning more than four decades in the international metals and recycling industries, including leadership roles in British, European and international trade organisations. He has also been involved in Holocaust remembrance and education initiatives.
Early life and family
Voss was born into a German-Jewish family. His parents left Germany before the Second World War, while members of his wider family were murdered during the Holocaust. His family history has influenced his later involvement in Holocaust education and remembrance.
He studied Management Science at the University of Manchester before entering the metals industry.
Business career
Voss developed his career in the international non-ferrous metals and recycling sector. He became recognised as a leading figure in the industry, particularly in relation to international trade, recycling and the role of secondary raw materials in the global economy.
He held senior positions in a number of industry organisations, including the British Metals Association, the European Metal Federation and the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR). Through these roles he represented the interests of the metals and
Recycling (BIR). Through these roles he represented the interests of the metals and recycling industries internationally and contributed to discussions concerning trade, resource efficiency and environmental policy.
His work and views on the metals industry were covered in specialist publications serving the international recycling and commodities sectors, including Recycling International.
Public service
Voss was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire in 2017, succeeding The Countess of Verulam. His appointment was announced by the Prime Minister's Office in August 2017.
As Lord-Lieutenant, Voss acts as the Sovereign's representative in Hertfordshire. His responsibilities include supporting civic life in the county, recognising achievements in voluntary service and enterprise, supporting the Armed Forces community, and representing the Crown at official occasions.
During his tenure he has promoted engagement with voluntary organisations, charities, businesses and community groups throughout Hertfordshire, including through the King's Awards for Enterprise and the King's Award for Voluntary Service.
Holocaust remembrance and education
Voss has spoken publicly about his family's experience as German-Jewish refugees and the importance of preserving Holocaust memory.
He participated in the BBC documentary British Jews, German Passports, which explored the experiences of British Jews whose families fled Nazi Germany and the issue of reclaiming German citizenship.
