| On 14 August 2025, it was proposed that this article be moved from Club Universidad Nacional to Pumas UNAM. The result of the discussion was moved. |
Aside from the fact that the article is clearly biased, it's very poorly written, even for Wikipedia standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.90.139.99 (talk) 19:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok, the whole article is not written from a neutral point of view, plus, the support section seems to be taken from the rebel oficial website. --JoniJarvisalo 23:43, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I nominated the Golden Years section because it seems to be written by a Pumas fan, and I doubt the neutrality of the article. I think it should be rewritten or eliminated. --JoniJarvisalo 23:43, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
In fact I think the whole article should be double cheked. --JoniJarvisalo 23:43, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
since when does olimpico universitario hold 79k?
and fonseca was not produced by pumas, he was debuted in first division by la piedad.
who was Fonseca before Hugo took him to CU?
To be honest recent editing to this article it's been of poor quality, some collaborations are in the borderline of vandalism, please try to restrain yourselves from editing information if you can't back it up. BTW people isn't doing any favors by erasing relevant information to the history and tradition of the club. I can't believe someone erased the anthem!!!, anyone that has attended a game of Pumas knows the importance of the anthem, there's a reason of why it had a small section talking about it.
Please remove the Luis Flores link, that's a basketball player, not UNAM's Luis Flores.
Fair use rationale for Image:UNAM Logo.PNG
[edit]
Image:UNAM Logo.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:33, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Anthem
[edit]The Sports Anthem of the UNAM does not belong to this team, but to the spoting representatives of the University. It does not belong in this page as it gives the feeling it was created by and for the soccer team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.141.22.150 (talk) 01:57, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Article's origins
[edit]Is it right that the author of the "History" section almost copied -and translated- verbatim the History part of the official website? If interested, http://www.pumasunam.com.mx/n_historia2.php?id=XX and replace the XX from 2 to 23 Commanderraf (talk) 01:26, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Requested move 14 August 2025
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus favours the move; WP:COMMONNAME as policy is cited. The single oppose cites WP:OFFICIALNAME which is an essay and does not carry the same weight as a policy based decision. CoconutOctopus talk 14:39, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
Club Universidad Nacional → Pumas UNAM – Per WP:COMMONNAME. Although the club's official name is Club Universidad Nacional, A.C., they are most commonly known as "Pumas UNAM", as the article itself suggests. Throughout the article, the club is called Pumas UNAM, and often just Pumas. If we look at other football-related articles on Wikipedia, we're most often using "Pumas UNAM" -- just take a look at Aaron Ramsey, for example. I'm willing to find sourcing this weekend (don't have time right now), but I think this move is pretty clear, in my opinion. We're just formalizing something that's already been known. - Oppose - COMMONNAME should/does not apply to clubs, we use WP:OFFICIALNAME, to prevent nonsense like articles being at Man U, Liverpool (football club), Sporting Lisbon etc. etc. - Inter Milan is the exception that proves the rule (and should be moved back IMHO). GiantSnowman 19:54, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Official names is an essay (that only asserts we have to use official names in these specific cases: royalty, American geography and political parties). Common name is part of the titling policy. If WP:Football uses "official names", then their project must explicitly establish it; yet again, that falls within a WP:LOCALCONSENSUS. (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:15, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- The club uses it on their homepage, as do sources like Soccerway, so COMMONNAME arguments are even debatable. 'Pumas' is a nickname only, albeit a prominent one. GiantSnowman 20:46, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Official name has never been how we entirely dictate football club article titles. It plays a part, obviously, in order to avoid the admittedly ridiculous examples you cited. But it's overrided by COMMONNAME for the most part. Tigres UANL is the most prominent comparison to make with this case. That's not the club's "official name" per se, but it's the most appropriate one to use for an article title. Paul Vaurie (talk) 21:17, 14 August 2025 (UTC)

- Support as easily the common name in English. Searching for news mainly comes up with Pumas UNAM, or Pumas, per nom suggestion, with Club Universidad Nacional fallen far behind these days. CNC (talk) 09:51, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
