Infobox name

Consensus on Chernobyl appears to be that the WP:COMMONNAME is displayed as the article name and used in the body, but the Ukrainian romanization is displayed in the infobox. Should this be also applied here? Coleisforeditor (talk) 19:20, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

I don't have a strong opinion here. I explained my motivation at the time at Talk:Pripyat/Archive 1#Consistency in spelling. I did not recognize that a distinction might be made between the spelling in the article text and the spelling in the infobox; if that's a common distinction made in other similar articles, then it seems reasonable to make that distinction here too. I do think that the spelling in the first sentence of the article text should match the spelling in the article title—that was probably my main motivation for my edit in 2017. —Bkell (talk) 01:35, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

The name parameter should match the page title. This was recently changed on the other article and I have undone this. Mellk (talk) 02:36, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Strange, I remember looking back and this change I believe has been in the other article since at least ~2017 (I cannot remember precisely, it was a few days ago, so take it with a grain of salt, but my point is it's been in effect for a while) Coleisforeditor (talk) 02:41, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

From what I can see, both names were included in the infobox but another editor decided to remove "Chernobyl" from the infobox and it defaulted to the other name. If we want to include "Prypiat" as an alternative name in this infobox, then sure, I don't see the issue with this. But it does not make sense to have one name that does not match the title. Only Prypiat

Why adding Russian translation as the main English translation? The name of Ukrainian town Prypiat should be only in Ukrainian-English translation. Russian one is completely redundant here. Check names of cities on Google maps, it's only Prypiat. Valentyn Holod (talk) 15:05, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

Pripyat COA

It is fake. I nominated it for deletion in Commons:

Pripyat never had COA. See post from National Museum "Chernobyl" here. It fact, it is a rendering of a souvenir badge, hence it is copyright violation.
