Preserving here by providing this link; my rationale was "edits to remove inappropriate synthesis, material not supported by sources, and/or original research". Can explain in more detail if needed. --K.e.coffman (talk)` K.e.coffman (talk) 16:57, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Legacy

[edit]

I moved personal criticisms associated with the man to a "legacy" section, and I would suggest we keep things organized and keep discussion about his legacy out of the main section. Also refrain from editorializing the content. Remain objective. Only cite opinions when they are from notable people, found in reliable published sources, and relevant to the man's legacy. Lets remain professional and objective about this, and remember What_Wikipedia_is_not

Added some additional stories and context to "Legacy". Squee22 (talk) 00:02, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Added date and location of birth. I got this from the Ukrainian version of the Article. I do not have a source. If someone has one, could you please include it. Thanks Squee22 (talk) 00:12, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Early Life, and Life in Canada

[edit]

Added "Early Life" and "Life in Canada" sections, as he was a teenager during his military service I think it belongs in it's own category. Squee22 (talk) 00:02, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

"During his war service he was tasked with covering the retreat of German soldiers during the westward expansion of the Soviet Union into Occupied Ukrainian Territory"
Expansion? Apart from the western regions of Ukraine, most of Ukraine was Soviet territory before WW2, so I would hardly call that an "expansion". Especially considering that this territory was being recovered from Nazi Germany (who Savaryn was fighting for), whose entire war effort was about expansion. This seems very POV, which I thought was a no-no on Wikipedia. ~2026-26646-07 (talk) 17:28, 22 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well the Soviet Union was an expansionist empire which murdered millions of Ukrainians less than a decade before this. That is not a matter of opinion, but a matter of fact. You are right though that the word expansion might imply to some less knowledgeable of the history, that Ukraine was not part of the Soviet Union before WWII and that would be incorrect. I changed the word "expansion", to "advances".
Also worth mentioning "apart from western regions of Ukraine"... the regions the USSR expanded into, you mean? The USSR did not stop at their former borders. They acquired considerable amounts of land due to world war two, and refused to return it. Remember Mr. Savaryn was born in the Polish Republic which is now part of Ukraine... He was from those western regions you mention. As such he most certainly was trying to prevent a western expansion of the Soviet Union into his homeland. As such "expansion" is objectively correct... but I changed it anyways cause I don't care to die on this hill. Cheers :)
