MrBallen's own disclaimer of factuality warrants mention

[edit]

Frequently when I watch his videos (which I use as background slop, when I want background noise that's not music or too interesting), I'll search the keywords of a particularly hard-to-believe story and find it not to exist. Most recently, in "The most credible cases of BROKEN REALITY...", posted on August 16, 2025, the tale of a Chinese woman who's lost in the "18 Ponds of the Dragon King" forest (which doesn't exist) for what she thinks is around two days but which turns out to have been a couple of weeks. I cannot find any evidence of this, just an AI-slop YouTube video, posted later than the MrBallen video, which greatly abbreviates his story and adds no new information.

There is a disclaimer in his YouTube video descriptions, which basically says he lies a little, but it's buried very deep -- and as this page calls him a teller of "true crime and mysteries", it is imperative that it reflects his hedging:

A quick note about our stories: They're all based on true events, but we sometimes use pseudonyms to protect the people involved, and some details are fictionalized for dramatic purposes. (Emphasis mine.)

Of course, my intuition is that he makes stuff up wholesale (or the "base" is as narrow as "a Chinese lady got lost in the woods once"), but while to say that would require citing an actual investigation, it seems negligent for this page not to even mention his own disclaimer of factuality. I just reread this and see an obvious question: Why don't I add it myself?
I've never actually added significant content to Wikipedia before and am scared. Also my argument is obvious to me, but I submit it here to the judgment of the experienced Wikipedians. CatFiggy (talk) 05:19, 14 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
