Breeding .. variables

This article states breeding is dependent on a few variables.

I suggest rewording to say dependent on several climatic variables or similar.

Also, other potential variables do not seem to have been studied in the reference, which appears to concentrate on climate change factors (but I am not an expert).

Perhaps an expert should rephrase this?
