There is no name Mavro. Mauro is an Italian name from Latin Maurus meaning Moorish/dark-skinned. And he clearly had an Italian surname Orbini and wrote in Italian. Classical Latin script didn't have a U, so V was used for both V and U. It says on the title page of his work: Mavro Orbini Ravseo in translation Mauro Orbini the Ragusan. The V in Ravseo is again U. It takes full Latin illiteracy to think Mavro Orbini Ravseo means his name was Mavro pronounced with a V. ~2026-22721-39 (talk) 18:54, 16 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
