I strongly contest the WP:G11 tag on this article. G11 applies to pages that exist solely as advertising with no encyclopedic content. This article does not meet that criteria. Marek Tesar is the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne, Editor-in-Chief of two peer-reviewed journals published by SAGE and Taylor & Francis, recipient of named international awards including the AERA Outstanding Qualitative Dissertation Award, and has been covered independently by the New Zealand Herald and 1News. The article is written in neutral encyclopedic prose with no promotional language. The subject clearly meets WP:PROF and WP:GNG.
My opinion is that this should not have passed review - the review was carried out by an inexperienced editor and therefore I'm moving it back to Draft. Deb (talk) 07:50, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I know Marek Tesar from my time at the University of Auckland when I did my M.Sc. he was an Associate Professor there (though I have no personal connection to him). I am pretty sure he meets WP:PROF and WP:GNG. I also saw a live page about him a year ago but I don't know what happened to it later. I also notice there is no existing article at the title "Marek Tesar" so I don't think the "(educator)" disambiguation is appropriate here. Could you give me a short amount of time to complete the cleanup and I will get back to you once it is done.
It was previously deleted several times because it was written in a promotional way. Whoever created the new one became aware that the original title was protected and they could not recreate it, so they used a different title to get around it. Then another person who also has a conflict of interest (as you have) reviewed the draft and allowed it through. This isn't acceptable practice, and you, being an acquaintance of his, should stay away from the article, although you can request changes on this page if you wish. I had no idea about the previous deletion history. I want to clarify that I have no personal connection to Marek Tesar. I simply attended the same university as an MSc student while he was an Associate Professor at the time. I understand your concern and will step back from editing the article directly. I wonder though if there is anything I can do to help move this forward appropriately. Thanks. ~2026-39394-95 (talk) 13:43, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's a matter of some concern because it's making the subject look bad, but I'm not sure there's an answer. There are scammers out there, such as "wikiadvisers", "encyclopediagurus.com" and "wikipublisherhouse.co.uk" who openly advertise that they will create a Wikipedia page for money. Almost all of these are staffed by people who know nothing about Wikipedia and aren't capable of writing an article that will pass review - often they use AI and sometimes they don't even speak English. When this kind of thing happens, the subject can end up looking like they have hired someone to write about them. It's almost better not to be the subject of an article at all. In this case, I don't think that's what has happened, but it's obvious that the people who are so keen to create the article are doing so because they have a personal connection with him. I had no idea about any of this. If Marek Tesar truly hired someone to create his Wikipedia biography then I completely agree with your decision. That possibility honestly had not crossed my mind which is why I said "give me some time to complete the cleanup." I came across the article by chance, disagreed with the speedy deletion on notability grounds, and simply wanted to help improve it. I had no other motive. ~2026-39723-64 (talk) 13:37, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
