Stellar Stream Analogy?

I don't really understand what a stellar stream is. Is a good analog comparing them to the rings of Saturn? When a moon or asteroid gets too close to a planet it gets ripped apart and makes a ring around the planet. So when a globular cluster gets too close to a galaxy, it gets ripped apart and makes a circle around the galaxy. Is that what they are. I really don't understand this. Specter stream and Orphan–Chenab Stream

Wikipedia needs articles on both of these recently discovered stellar streams. Specter is especially notable for being low visibility and possibly the first discovered of a new class of difficult to see stellar streams, remnants of anciently disrupted dwarf galaxies.
