Lillie road recreation ground
[edit]Its actually a registered common that the Hammersmith & Fulham council tried to enclose about 3 to 4 decades ago (after WW2) - for the purposes of building council flats on it. It's original name is Old Fulham Common Fields, and it's original size included the Fulham Cemetery, Fulham Cross School, various streets beyond Fulham Palace Road and the Aintree Council Estate. The name was changed (by the council) and entrusted with new bylaws (Byelaws for pleasure grounds, public walks and open spaces) as a ploy to de-register the commons. The council also partially enclosed it with a metal fence - which upon local protests, has never been properly shut. Hence the park staying open all night from all three current entrances.
