Withdrawing August 3 edit request and deleting the text; I will replace it with the fully revised article in a sandbox to make the request less time-consuming for a reviewer with expertise in this area. JSFarman2 (talk) 17:32, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@JSFarman2: This is a bit of thorny issue. The fact that you’re being paid by the person whose page is being edited may cause any text that is written purely by you to gain the appearance of impropriety, even if you do a very fair and careful job. A better approach might be to create a list of outdated or important information missing from the article, and some citations to useful third party references. I suppose I can try to go through and double check the claims, and then fix any issues in the article in my own words Pabnau (talk) 20:34, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello and THANK YOU! I am 100% about following the guidelines re: COI editing and I appreciate not only your help but your expertise. (Jay Shendure has been completely hands off - I understand the NY Times, Atlantic, and other articles about his work, but the science is a mystery.) I will put everything together in a sandbox, complete with sources, etc and what I've written, which you can edit as you see fit. I know how much work this is and I appreciate it beyond. ~~~~ JSFarman2 (talk) 21:26, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I did a bit of research on my own, and am now looking at how things can be improved. It would probably be nice to get a photograph, so if Dr. Shendure could send us a portrait photo that he has the copyright to (or just specify one that’s available online like here: https://shendurelab.github.io/people/), and give us permission to release it under a permissive license acceptable under Wikipedia:Image use policy, that would make things the easiest.
Beyond that, do you know if there is a good source with some basic biographical information? like birth place, parents, etc…, maybe from an interview or even something like a blog post? Basic, uncontroversial facts like this are probably fine to get from a primary source, though if they haven’t been publicly released, we can just focus on his later career.
