There is no such place called the "british' isles". Ireland has asked the world many years ago to stop using the term as it is highly offensive to Irish people, especially after 800 years of violent british oppression against the Irish in Ireland. Ireland fought for its freedom for a reason, not to be called 'british'. Respect that. Neither Ireland or the UK recognises that term and so therefore should not be used. (sigh) It is very well documented that there is a group of islands off the coast of northwest Europe that includes two large islands and several smaller islands around them. The largest of those islands is known as Great Britain and the second largest is known as Ireland. Together, with all the smaller islands around them, the most common name for that group of islands, whether you like it or not, is the British Isles. If you want to discuss that further, the place to do so is Talk:British Isles/name debate, but unless you have some actual evidence for your assertion that there's "no such place", don't expect a lot of traction.
