The usual meaning of 'indictable offence' is one which is triable on indictment, whether it is exclusively so triable, or triable either-way. That is the meaning given by the Interpretation Act 1978. James500 (talk) 20:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am aware of that - which is why I wrote what I did - but many people seem to use "indictable" to mean "indictable only" and that is the usage in the article. Although I do not use the terms in that way, because I think it is important to retain clarity as a lawyer - many criminal practitioners seem to do so.
