I am Felice Fassnacht Leeds, the original FX makeup artist and fabricator who sculpted and built the three HALYX alien masks in early 1981 under the supervision of Walt Disney Studios Makeup Department head Bob Schiffer.
Because much of this technical production history is missing from the main page, I would appreciate an editor adding the following historical information to the article:
In early 1981, Walt Disney Studio Records executive Gary Krisel hired studio mailroom employee Felice Fassnacht Leeds to fabricate the band’s three signature alien masks. Hand-selected after submitting a successful trial sculpture of the amphibian mask, Leeds worked under the direct supervision of Walt Disney Studios Makeup Department head Bob Schiffer. The complex prosthetics were completed within a strict six-month window.
Due to the highly physical nature of the live performances on Disneyland's Space Stage, Leeds engineered the masks to be entirely self-contained, one-piece removable units that required no skin adhesives. Working from 2D concept drawings, Leeds translated the designs into 3D stage wear. The amphibian percussionist and the "Baharnoth" (bassist) masks were cast in flexible latex. For the Baharnoth, Leeds meticulously applied real yak hair by hand, layer by layer, creating a visually striking but exceptionally hot suit for the performer. The robotic keyboardist helmet was cast in resin with a top-hinge mechanism for access. To achieve its intricate, futuristic detailing, Leeds sourced and modified practical components from a local plumbing supply store. To ensure the daily summer show could run without interruption, Leeds fabricated a complete secondary duplicate backup set of all three masks to keep on standby. ~2026-43359-63 (talk) 19:51, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
