There is also another well-known "Grinnell System" in the world of natural history, named after Joseph Grinnell (1877-1939) at UC Berkeley. He made extensive studies of the fauna of California, and is credited with introducing a method of recording precise field observations known as the Grinnell System, which had four parts: A field notebook to directly record observations as they are happening. A field journal of fully written entries on observations and information, transcribed from the notes. A species account of the detailed observations on chosen species.
