Article scope following the formation of BarmeniaGothaer

I work for BarmeniaGothaer, the insurance group formed in 2024 by Gothaer and Barmenia to combine their insurance businesses. I therefore have a conflict of interest regarding this topic and am raising the question here rather than making substantial changes to the article myself.

My aim is to initiate a discussion about how BarmeniaGothaer, one of Germany’s ten largest insurance groups, should be represented in the English-language Wikipedia. Depending on the outcome, I may submit a new draft about BarmeniaGothaer or suggest changes to the scope and content of this article.

Question

Would it make sense to retain this article as a historical article about the Gothaer Group and submit a separate draft about BarmeniaGothaer? Alternatively, should the existing Gothaer Group article be moved to BarmeniaGothaer and rewritten to cover the current group?

Background

BarmeniaGothaer was formed through the combination of Gothaer Group and Barmenia. The Gothaer and Barmenia mutual insurance associations continue to exist as separate legal entities and jointly control the new group. The combined insurance group now operates publicly exclusively under the BarmeniaGothaer name; Gothaer and Barmenia are no longer used as separate public-facing brands.

For comparison, the German-language Wikipedia has separate articles for BarmeniaGothaer and for the two predecessor groups, Gothaer and Barmenia. The BarmeniaGothaer article covers the current group, while the other two articles focus primarily on the histories of the predecessor organizations. I am not sure whether this degree of separation would also be appropriate for the English-language Wikipedia.

If separate articles for the current group and its historical predecessors are considered the better approach, should a separate historical article about Barmenia also be considered to ensure consistent coverage of both predecessor groups? Jule at BarmeniaGothaer (talk) 09:46, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
