Removed unsourced, prob. wrong claims

[edit]

About the Ottoman clocktower:

"... similar to the guet royal [wikilinked to Royal Watch ] and guet bourgeois ("burgess watch") established in France, which lasted until the 18th century."

Unsourced (i.e. sourced to wrong ref), most likely OR (original research), and probably wrong, too.

  1. It was inserted in paragraph sourced on paper by A. Nicolae, which didn't contain anything on guet or France.
  2. Royal Watch was a police unit, not a tower. They may have used watch towers (or not), but if they did, that's such an insignificant detail that the enWiki art. doesn't even contain the word tower.
  3. Unclear what "lasted until the 18th century": the guet units, or the role of this tower as fire lookout?

I've added "(compare with Tour du Guet)" out of courtesy, but w/o much conviction and will remove it now, as it's a rather arbitrary comparison (13th century there, late 17th here). No "guet" then in the end. Arminden (talk) 11:08, 27 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
