White House Task Force on Celebrating America's 250th Birthday → Freedom 250 – Many sources call this organization Freedom 250 . That is also the name that the organization brands itself as . Xomegas (talk) 15:44, 2 July 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 06:45, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose, Freedom 250 is also a recognizable name for the U.S. 250th Anniversary. Randy Kryn (talk) 15:49, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
- Do you have any sources to support that? Xomegas (talk) 16:00, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Xomegas, I have not seen widespread use of the term to refer to the 250th anniversary. Though I have seen other entities use the same or similar branding, but I also don't know whether they're doing so on their own or if they're affiliated with Freedom250 in some way. - Support – Most sources I've seen generally use the term "Freedom 250" to refer only to this organization. I myself even use this term for it. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 23:20, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
- And the nominator also pointed out that this is also what the organization itself brands itself as. We can always put a hatnote directing towards America 250 (both the organization and the event). Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 23:22, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose, to avoid the already existing confusion in the public between Freedom 250 and America 250. The legal term, while long, is far less ambiguous than Freedom 250, and moving the article would give an unnecessary press victory to the organization's administration which has intentionally sought to create that ambiguity. Amyipdev (talk) 02:36, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
- Template:about can resolve the ambiguity. Xomegas (talk) 03:16, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support The title is more WP:PRECISE and WP:CONCISE when changed. Rager7 (talk) 05:16, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support: This is the CommonName, see e.g. . A big point of the controversy is that Freedom 250 is trying to make itself America 250 while it is not. I don't see how moving the article would be a "press victory to the organization's administration" nor why that should be a consideration. Freedom 250 already redirects here anyways, so leaving it here isn't stopping any confusion. In solidarity, Aaron Liu (talk) 02:34, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

- Support Freedom 250, is clearly the WP:COMMONNAME, a hat note would be great in differentiating the different entities. The current name is not common at all. It’s more WP:PRECISE and WP:CONCISE, Freedom 250. It’s the whole controversy 2x2x2x2x2 (talk) 15:33, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support This is definitely the WP:COMMONNAME. It seems heavily unlikely that people seeking to learn about this subject matter would be looking for it by full name, rather than by Freedom 250. Moreover, this is a timely requested move, as many people are seeking information on this topic today. (Freedom 250 currently redirects to the anniversary itself, rather than this task force.) PickleG13 (talk) 19:53, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- You're thinking Freedom250 (which I'm starting a RfD for), not Freedom 250. In solidarity, Aaron Liu (talk) 00:39, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support - Per WP:COMMONNAME. A vast majority of sources I've seen use "Freedom 250" to refer to the organization rather than the broader United States Semiquincentennial. Any potential confusion with the semiquincentennial itself can easily be resolved with Template:About. - ZLEA TǀC 20:47, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support: I'd close this as a SNOW keep if I didn't have what I consider a COI but the branding and discussion of this entity is almost exclusively as "Freedom 250". Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 00:02, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- Common name? Does anyone here really think that readers searching for 'Freedom 250' are looking for the committee or the page for the nationwide celebration itself. That's WP:COMMONSENSE, and averting readers to this page when we know that they are searching for another doesn't seem like the way to go. Randy Kryn (talk) 01:57, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
That is indeed exactly the argument. Not to mention readers searching for Freedom 250 are currentlythink that readers searching for 'Freedom 250' are looking for the committee or the page for the nationwide celebration itself
avert[ed] to this page
anyways. In solidarity, Aaron Liu (talk) 14:48, 5 July 2026 (UTC)- You seriously think readers are looking for the commission when searching for 'Freedom 250'? Yes, it's redirected here, because an editor changed the redirect without discussion. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:54, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- All of the edits to that redirect including your single one were made without discussion. I believe that those searching for Freedom 250 are searching for Freedom 250–branded festivities, which are covered better in this article as opposed to unintuitive locations within a single subsection under "Planning". I don't see arguments to the contrary that Freedom 250 activities shouldn't be covered in this article, so correcting the title and redirect would allow us to centralize our coverage and work towards making the America250 article SummaryStyle. In solidarity, Aaron Liu (talk) 15:26, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- There seems to be some serious confusion here, as Freedom 250 refers to one organization, rather than the general semiquincentennial. Once I am free to do so, I will probably need to undertake a thorough overhaul of all these articles—especially the creation of a specific page for the Great American State Fair. - Oppose. We use United States Semiquincentennial Commission as the article title for the agency instead of the trade name America250. Cfls (talk) 07:54, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- America250 is a redirect to the anniversary because sources refer to it as such: The same does not fly with Freedom 250. That said, I'm fine with making that article titled America250 because the evidence for my first sentence is weaker than I thought. In solidarity, Aaron Liu (talk) 16:08, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- Technically speaking (and I can admit I am an expert in this particular subject), America 250 is the sole official non-profit partner of the US Semiquincentennial Commission rather than simply the brand name. There is a meaningful distinction from a legal perspective but it's really questionable if the two constitute a distinct subject. "America 250" would probably be a bad name for that article because it could be mistaken as referring to the American semiquincentennial more generally. "Freedom 250" only refers to the subject of this article and is the primary name used on all branding and in most media coverage. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:12, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
