The fire-footed rope squirrel was recently identified as being a natural reservoir for the M-pox virus which causes M-pox (aka "monkey pox") disease in humans. Published in a Nature preprint entitled "Fire-Footed Rope Squirrel are a Reservoir Host of M-Pox" and was mentioned in this TWIV 1212 video: [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YThpjLzT1hA ] at around 9:44 into the video.
