Abuse Cases

Should there be a new section about abuse cases at Elevation church, or should any information regarding those cases be added into the history section?

Naomi Kowles of WBTV made an investigative report on child sex abuse in Charlotte churches and noted two alleged abusers connected to Elevation church. Jacop Hazlett was convicted of assaulting numerous victims while volunteering at NewSpring Church. He was a former youth volunteer The Cove Church and Elevation Church but was moved to other positions because of concerns with his interaction with children. When Hazlett was a minor, he was charged in Ohio with child-related sex crimes. The other alleged abuser is Benjamin Damron who was "charged with ten different counts of taking indecent liberties or sexual advantage of a child" and indicted by a grand jury in "cases against three different children". Damron was "a soccer coach, church volunteer, and attendee at several Charlotte churches, including Elevation."

Since Elevation used to be Southern Baptist and Hazlett was a volunteer at Elevation when the church was Southern Baptist, this could be connected to the wider sex abuse crisis in the Southern Baptist churches. Flipperndipper (talk) 06:20, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
