Easter eggs in antiquity

I've removed two sentences talking about "eggs in antiquity". The first stated that eggs had religious significance in antiquity - perhaps, but nothing to do with this custom originating in the middle ages, 13 centuries later. The second was an unreferenced claim that early Christians venerated eggs because of the phoenix. Again, if true, no connection to our custom here. The first seems like parallelomania. We'd need to see some evidence that 13th century Germans borrowed an idea from antiquity, and there isn't any. Demonteddybear100 (talk) 13:56, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Clarification needed

Non- Christian origins

All hail the book sources. But there were Nordic spring traditions of coloring eggs and various versions of hares as fertility symbols in spring festivals. Maybe someone could write a few words before forgotten history is completely ignored. This article's first paragraph is refuted by the rest of the article.

The article repeats in the first paragraph all the false tropes about the Easter bunny, Eostre, and eggs, and then disproves all of them in the rest of the article.

The Easter Bunny is a South German folktale of uncertain origin traceable to the sixteenth century. Nothing ancient, nothing medieval, ---certainly nothing Christian. Does wikipedia have the ability to tell the truth????~2026-21823-39 (talk) 21:05, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
