Notability

IMHO notability is achieved based on the following criteria:

• Criterion 1 (significant impact in discipline)
  • She has several papers with more than 300 citations on Google Scholar, despite having passed away more than 30 years ago (and way before Google Scholar existed).
  • A book of scholarly essays in her memory (noted in the "further reading" section) was published by Hampton Press, described on its web site as "an independent scholarly publisher; All books published by Hampton Press are refereed and meet the highest research standards."
  • An academic award in her memory was established by the International Reading Association, and has its own Wikipedia page.
  • Her work was reviewed in a dedicated chapter of Bridges to literacy: Children, families, and schools, D. K. Dickinson (Ed.), Blackwell Publishing 1994. Blackwell Publishing was "the world's leading learned society publisher".
  • Her book published in 1988 was reviewed in the journal Applied Psycholinguistics.
  • She was an early contributor to the debate concerning the phonetic method for teaching reading, still cited in papers and reviews on the subject (e.g. here and here).
• Criterion 2 (received prestigious honor at national level): She received the Israel prize, the highest civil recognition in Israel, in the first year the prize was given (1953); was the first woman to receive the prize (all other recipients that year were men); was the youngest recipient of the prize, a record that has held for 70 years.

• Criterion 3 (elected to selective and prestigious scholarly society): She was inducted to the Reading Hall of Fame. (However, not sure about this organization.)

• Criterion 7 (impact outside of academia): I have added a section about the impact of her work on education in Israel, and specifically on early literacy.
