Willacy Detention Center

Willacy Detention Center articles says it has a capacity of 3,000, but South Texas Family Residential Center with a capacity of 2,400 is supposed to be the biggest in the USA. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:10, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Probably resolved. A CBS source says capacity will be 3,000, which matches Willacy, so that's fine. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:09, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

2018 information needed

This article hasn't had any major edits for some time, since before the current crack-down on illegal immigration. I hope to add some more up-to-date information and hope others will do so, too. Ogram (talk) 23:31, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Confusing

This seems to contradict itself: "The South Texas Family Residential Center was at first only able to accommodate 480 people when the first group of residents arrive in December 2014 from a Border Patrol training camp located in Artesia, New Mexico. The capacity was 2,400 residents by May 2014 with a staff of 600." In May, it had a capacity of 2,400, but seven months later it opened but with no more than 480 places available. Also, why is December mentioned before May? Maybe the May date should be 2015? Does any-one know? Kdammers (talk) 17:32, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

It looks like both names are used in reporting, though Dilley is more commonly reference. I found a statement from the Marshall Project "...then called the South Texas Family Residential Center" which supports moving to the new name. Lastchapter (talk) 16:37, 9 February 2026 (UTC)

Needs updating?

The last description of the facility and its capacity relies on information from 2014. At the time it was still a bunch of cabins and could only hold a few hundred people. The expansion later with the construction of additional housing units that brought capacity up to 2,400. Are there any descriptions of these facilities from the current period of operation?
