Structure reorganization

[edit]

The page layout probably needs to be reorganized. It's starts of with saying what people should think about the digital euro before talking about what it is, first. I'll probably move all the reception/criticism sections to the bottom.

It should probably go

  • Explain
  • Response
  • Reception

Similar to other articles like Digital rupee or Central bank digital currency. Sibshops (talk) 17:09, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Okay, it's restructured to look like other articles. Sibshops (talk) 19:14, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Removal of benefits and criticisms

[edit]

I removed the benefits and criticism sections. They were about CBDC's in general (as in they didn't talk about the digital euro, specifically, in the source). It's original research to applying these concerns to the digital euro if the source isn't doing it, directly.

I moved the motivations for why the digital euro was created was moved earlier into the background and design sections to better flow historically.

I also added a reception and analysis section to replace the criticism section for third-party analysis of the digital euro. Previously it was unsourced or poorly sourced bullet points. Let me know if there are changes. Sibshops (talk) 19:21, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Criticisms and risks of the digital Euro

[edit]

I fully expected this to be deleted, the ECB has a lot of interns trolling wikipedia to censor anything negative. It lasted longer than expected.

I'll leave it here as a reminder of what was censored, maybe some other editor will consider some of the points worthy of inclusion.

Criticisms and risks of the digital Euro

Just to clarify, I didn't remove this for the viewpoints, but because the points are not supported by reliable secondary sources discussing the digital euro specifically. Applying general CBDC criticism to the digital euro without sources that do this directly would be original research WP:SYNTH.
Once we have independent reliable sources that talk about how these points apply to the digital euro we can add it back. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 13:26, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
