[edit source]I've looked at the March 2026 edits by a user with a declared conflict of interest; see userpage at Itsritual (talk · contribs). They made up 75% of the text of the article at the point I read it. Although the edits are neutrally written, the user needs to make the requests for the changes here, rather than editing the article directly, and I have reverted the article to the previous version. I have a conflict of interest as co-founder of DigVentures, disclosed on my user page. Proposing three copyedits and two additions. The copyedits need no new sources; the additions are supported by BBC News and a peer-reviewed journal article.
Copyedits
[edit source]1. Lindisfarne. Currently: "A total of nine consecutive field seasons (including those planned for 2024) have unearth numerous insights for the site."
"have unearth" is ungrammatical, and the parenthetical refers to seasons planned for a year now past. Suggested:
- "A total of nine consecutive field seasons have produced numerous
insights into the site."
2. Soulton Hall. Currently: "...and a "lost castle" rediscovered in 2021 undergoing a multi-season archaeological investigation by DigVentures. The five year long programme of fieldwork will concluded in June 2024."
The first sentence lacks a main verb in its second clause; the second is ungrammatical and in the future tense about a past date. Suggested:
- "A "lost castle" rediscovered there in 2021 was the subject of a
multi-season archaeological investigation by DigVentures. The five-year programme of fieldwork concluded in June 2024."
3. Sudeley Castle. Currently: "Yearly excavations by archaeologists DigVentures began at Sudeley Castle in 2018 and set out to discover more about this party..."
"this party" has no antecedent anywhere in the article, and "by archaeologists DigVentures" is garbled. Suggested:
- "Yearly excavations by DigVentures began at Sudeley Castle in 2018,
uncovering extensive Tudor gardens to the east of the Victorian reconstructed gardens currently on the site."

4. Wittenham Clumps
- "DigVentures has carried out excavations at Wittenham Clumps in
Oxfordshire in partnership with Earth Trust, uncovering Iron Age and Roman remains including an Iron Age blacksmith's workshop and the remains of a small Roman dog.[1][2]"
5. Cerney Wick
- "DigVentures carried out investigations at Oak Tree Fields, Cerney
Wick, Gloucestershire, where Pleistocene deposits yielded mammoth remains and Palaeolithic artefacts. The results were published in the Journal of Quaternary Science in 2023.[3][4]"
Disclosure: I am a co-author of the journal article cited above, so this is a self-citation per WP:SELFCITE.
I have further proposed changes, including a section on the Deep Time citizen science project, but will raise those separately once these are resolved.
